Top 3 IDM cds since 2001?
Hello. I've been out of the loop since 2001. Have I missed out on anything mind blowing? Any recommendations? The only releases that I've bought since 2001 are the following:
Autechre-Confeld (2001)
I listened to Draft 7.0 and Untitled and didn't care for them. I prefer melodic idm which Ae used to do very well. Seems like they're bored with melody on all of their new stuff.
Squarepusher-Go Plastic (2001)
Also listened to Ultravisitor, which was decent in spots, but not as consistently enjoyable as Go Plastic seemed to me. Can't put my finger on just why. To me, the only track on Ultravisitor that measured up to The Exploding Psychology and I Wish You Could Talk from Go Plastic was the title track Ultravisitor. Nothing on Ultravisitor rivals the sublime ambience of Tommib.
Mu-Ziq-Bilous Paths (2003)
Liked it.
Pan Sonic-Kesto (2004)
Their best to date IMO.
Plaid-Spokes (200?)
Liked it.
Like I said. Definitely out of the loop. So can anyone bring me up to date with a list of three or more noteworthy IDM cds since 2001? As I mentioned, my tastes lean toward the melodic side (like Arovane's atol_scrap), but I'm open to checking anything out. Thanks.

Xela - For Frosty Mornings And Summer Nights [2003]

Re: Top 3 IDM cds since 2001?
Fri, July 22, 2005 - 4:22 AM1. Venetian Snares - Rossz Csillag Allat Született (03/2005):
The latest cd of venetian snares - it's less chaotic, more orchestral. He used to make almost pure breakcore but this album lends a lot from classical music, with influences from amon tobin, plaid, ..
2. Amon Tobin: Whatever you can get your hands on. His latest is the soundtrack for the new Counterstrike-game, but i still prefer one of the older: Supermodified.
3. Prefuse 73 has done some good stuff too. 'One Word Extinguisher' comes to mind. A fusion between hip/trip-hop and electronica.
If you're into loungy stuff: Icarus is my discovery of the week (with a sound quite alike Nitin Sawhney).
One of my favourites will still be Plaid, you can't go wrong with these guys. They master the bleeps as Jimmy mastered the guitar. -

Re: Top 3 IDM cds since 2001?
Sun, September 25, 2005 - 12:08 AMi would third the "venetian snares" album. fucking brilliant!! BoC's "geogaddi" (2002) was excellent too (not sure if it counts as IDM). matmos' "the civil war" (2004) is excellent too. the IDM album i'm looking forward to the most though is from JEGA. it should be out any day now..... he hasn't done anything since "geometry" (2000). btw, i say you should give "draft 7.30" another couple of listens. however, i was VERY dissapointed with the latest Arovane -- excellent production, very squeaky clean, and very boring. -

Re: Top 3 IDM cds since 2001?
Fri, January 19, 2007 - 8:32 AMSquarepusher's new 'hello everything' is WONDERFUL, I love all of his works... but if you like melodic music, here's the Jenkinson album for you. I agree with the tobin comment, I find his music very interesting to dance to. Other than that;
The soft pink truth, do you party?: sweet album, took me a few listens in order to get into it, but now I'm all about the soft pink truth.
Jackson and his hom computer, Smash: In my opinion, Smash is the dance album of the year. There isn't any other music that makes me want do dance more exstatically.
I'm currently expanding my music horizons, if and when I find more albums I'll post again :P
